eBay Anecdotal Slowdown: Part 2

Some sellers who complained that their sales had slowed in the Spring say sales have not yet rebounded. The reports are anecdotal, and eBay has blamed normal, seasonal factors on changes sellers may be experiencing (http://auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m05/i25/s01).

Initially some sellers blamed their sales slowdown on the rollback of eBay's Stores in Search initiative (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m03/i29/s01). Others blamed eBay's new fixed-price marketplace, eBay Express. eBay spokesperson Catherine England said on Thursday that eBay Express is not impacting search on eBay.com in any way.

Sellers have also complained of inconsistent results when searching eBay.com. They report that when they do identical searches, they get different numbers of results each time (http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=1000304720&tstart=0).

eBay's England said there was a search issue early on Thursday, and the issue was resolved with a few hours Thursday afternoon. She said the issue impacted a limited number of searches in only a subset of categories.

England said eBay does not have any ongoing or chronic issues with search, but she said there have been a couple of different, small issues over the past few weeks. "In all cases the issues were resolved within hours and impact was minimal," England said. "I'm guessing you've heard about a couple of them but they have been unrelated incidents."
