Reading AuctionBytes: Thomson Gale to Market GoAntiques Pricing Database

Thomson Gale has partnered with GoAntiques to market its pricing database of antiques and collectibles. GoAntiques has been marketing directly to librarians its PriceMiner database, whose pricing data comes from eBay, Tias.com and GoAntiques and presents historical pricing information, photos and descriptions for the same or similar items. This summer, Thomson Gale will release Price It Antiques & Collectibles through its partnership with GoAntiques.

Users simply type in keywords for the item they wish to value and Price It Antiques & Collectibles searches millions of records from a variety of data sources, ascertaining the item's current value and presenting historical pricing information, photos and descriptions for the same or similar items. Users can search Price It! Antiques & Collectibles by any combination of keywords, data channels (online auctions, online retail sites, auction houses), categories, sales dates, sold or unsold items and restricting the search to only records that have images.

"There are various estimates in reputable journals of the population that collects something - whether it be for investment or simply for the pure joy of collecting," said Thomson Gale Business Development Manager Gerry Sawchuk. "Price It Antiques & Collectibles provides these collectors, through access by their local public library, a one-stop, up-to-date source of appraisals based on actual sales from several reliable sources - eBay, professional antique dealers and antique auction houses. They will now have a reliable pricing appraisal of similar items and their actual selling value on which to base their own asking prices."
