ChannelAdvisor issued a press release on Tuesday announcing competitor Marketworks filed a complaint against it in Fulton County Superior Court in Atlanta. "ChannelAdvisor understands that the complaint primarily centers around the hiring of a former Marketworks employee who was allegedly bound by a non-competition agreement forbidding employment with AuctionRover.com" (http://www.channeladvisor.com/company/press_releases/pr060627.asp). ChannelAdvisor and Marketworks provide multi-channel management services to eBay and ecommerce sellers.
ChannelAdvisor CEO Scot Wingo said his company hired Mike Searles to act as an account manager in the UK, and previously Searles had worked for Marketworks in Germany.
Wingo was CEO and cofounder of AuctionRover.com and became General Manager of GoTo Auctions after the acquisition. According to a July 30, 2001, article in SiliconValley.Internet.com, GoTo.com spun off its auction business in2001. "GoTo.com has sold its auction business back to its management team, while retaining an 18.5 percent ownership stake" (http://siliconvalley.internet.com/news/article.php/856401).
ChannelAdvisor's press release from yesterday states, "AuctionRover.com is a company that in 2000 was merged into GoTo.com/Overture Services (which was subsequently purchased by Yahoo!); it has no corporate relationship to ChannelAdvisor."
