eBay is beginning its marketing campaign for its new marketplace on Thursday. eBay Express draws from fixed-price listings on eBay.com and eBay Stores.
eBay North America President Bill Cobb told attendees of the online "Town Hall" Meeting event Wednesday evening that the marketing campaign for eBay Express would kick off the following day, September 7, with a television ad on the NFL Miami-Pittsburgh football game broadcast on NBC. The ads will also appear on other shows, including CSI, Law & Order, Extreme Makeover and Deal or no Deal.
Earlier in the day, eBay CFO Bob Swan had been asked by an analyst at the Citigroup Technology Conference how sellers would be able to know if the new marketplace was successful. Swan talked about the goal of the marketplace, which was designed for eBay buyers for when they want a more "convenience-oriented" shopping experience, though he did not give specific performance measures.
Swan said eBay Express was launched in June on eBay.com and last week in Germany, and he said he believed it would launch in the UK this week.
In July, eBay decided to also include auction-style listings with Buy It Now on eBay Express for qualifying sellers, and said "core" fixed-price and auction-style Buy It Now listings that qualify for eBay Express would "be advantaged" over Store Inventory listings.
