eBay Speeds Up Page-Refresh for Last-Minute Bidding

eBay said it would roll out a couple of changes to the Item page, including a faster refresh. When an auction-style listing has 15 minutes or fewer left before it ends, buyers will see a new Refresh link near the Place Bid or Buy It Now buttons. Clicking the link will update only the top section of the page instead of the full page.

This will speed up the refresh process and update bidding data, such as the current high bid and the time left, faster. Many eBay buyers place bids in the last 15 minutes of an auction, a process called sniping by online auction users. Last-minute bidding is so popular that programmers have developed sniping software to place bids automatically for buyers.

eBay also said it is would turn the "Watch this item" link into a button to make it more noticeable for buyers.
