Google is running a holiday promotion for online sellers. From November 8 through December 31, 2006, Google will process all Checkout transactions for free. Currently, Google Checkout processing fees are 2% plus $0.20 per transaction, with a bonus for AdWords advertisers - for every $1 spent on Google's AdWords program, merchants can process $10 of Google Checkout sales for free. This compares to PayPal fees of a standard rate of 2.9% plus $0.30 per transaction, or merchant rates ranging from 1.9% - 2.5% plus $0.30 per transaction.
During the promotion, Google will process all Checkout transactions for free, even for sellers who don't participate in AdWords. Valid Checkout orders received during the promotion automatically qualify.
As reported by AuctionBytes in July, eBay prohibits sellers from requesting payment through Google Checkout (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y06/m07/i06/s02). Google Checkout remains on the list of payment services not permitted on eBay.
