eBay Inc. has appointed Dr. Daniel Lee as general manager for the eBay China Development Center (CDC) in Shanghai, China. Dr. Lee will be responsible for managing operations and leading the expansion of the CDC, eBay's first development center outside the U.S. Lee will report to Jack Xu, eBay vice president of engineering and research & eBay Technical Fellow.

Lee joins eBay from Yahoo, where he most recently served as the chief technology officer and engineering operations director for North Asia. Prior to Yahoo, Dr. Lee held several management positions at HP, including manager of the imaging technology department and director of R&D for HP's Internet Imaging Operation. Additionally, Dr. Lee conducted research in the areas of Visual Communications at the Advanced Telecommunications Research (ATR) in Japan, and Data Compression research IBM Research. He began his career as a research assistant at Stanford Information Systems Laboratory, Stanford University.

Dr. Lee holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, and received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

eBay's Research Labs in the U.S., headed by Eric Billingsley, focuses on search, machine learning, analytics and optimization, trust and reputation, emerging platforms, social networking and incentive, networks, and infrastructure and grid computing.
