Reading AuctionBytes: Former eBay COO Maynard Webb Joins LiveOps As CEO

eBay's former Chief Operating Officer Maynard Webb has joined LiveOps in the role of CEO. Webb left eBay this year, as did eBay's Senior Vice President of Product, Development and Architecture, Lynn Reedy.

Maynard Webb said in a statement, "LiveOps is enabling people to work from anywhere, at anytime. It is using technology to build a passionate community and dramatically improve people's lives. It reminds me of eBay in the early days." The lure of a start-up is not surprising: according to a June article in the San Jose Mercury News, Webb received more than $90 million exercising and selling eBay option shares during his 7-year tenure at the company.

LiveOps is a leader in the distributed call center industry, contracting with over 9,000 home agents, or work-from-home customer service agents, across 48 states to answer customer service calls and take product orders over the phone. It empowers this community through its Web-based technology platform. The company has over 150 customers, ranging from brand- name direct marketers to Fortune 500 companies and has worked with the Red Cross to reconnect families in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

At eBay, Webb oversaw engineering and technology operations, product development, customer support, trust and safety, global billing, human resources, and legal departments, working closely with CEO Meg Whitman. He has been credited with creating organizational processes and day-to-day structures that enabled eBay to grow from $140 million in revenue to over $4.5 billion in 2005, while the employee base grew from 250 to over 12,000.

Prior to joining eBay, Webb served as CIO of Gateway, Inc. and Bay Networks. Webb currently sits on the boards of Hyperion, Salesforce.com, and Gartner, Inc.

LiveOps has funding from CMEA Ventures and Menlo Ventures.
