Overstock.com Considers Google Checkout for Shopping, Auctions
By Ina Steiner AuctionBytes.com January 24, 2007
Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne said the company is considering Google Checkout for Overstock Shopping and for its auction platform. The revelation came in a discussion board thread started by Byrne to answer questions about why Meghan Tuohig took over for executive Stormy Simon as head of Overstock.com Auctions.
After one third-party seller requested Byrne add Google Checkout integration to Overtock.com Auctions, several other sellers piped up to add their vote for Google's payment processing system. Byrne said he's considering Checkout for the shopping platform, and said, "I don't know any reason why it could not be worked into the auction site as well." However, he seemed unclear on how it would work and asked for seller feedback.
Overstock issued a press release on Tuesday stating it is scheduled to release fourth quarter and fiscal year 2006 financial results before the market opens on February 5. An accompanying conference call and webcast is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time the same day.
