Boston Red Sox baseball player Manny Ramirez posed for a picture next to a grill, which is now for sale on eBay. The seller, using the name " mannyramirez1524," registered on eBay on Sunday and listed the grill, with an offer to throw in an autographed baseball as well.
The Boston Globe newspaper asked Manny about the grill, and apparently it was a good ice-breaker - it was the first interview he granted this season, though he would not talk baseball.
So is it really Manny's grill listed on eBay?? Apparently not. Manny told the Globe's Amalie Benjamin that the grill belongs to his neighbor, whom he is helping out.
That's quite the favor. On Tuesday evening, bidding on the $4,000 grill had reached over $42,000.
It was just last year that Yankees baseball player Johnny Damon cried foul when a Red Sox fan sold baby bibs on eBay printed with the words "Damon Sucks." (Damon previously played for the Red Sox.) The baseball player's agents blocked the seller's sales, invoking the intellectual property rights to Damon's name. Update 3/22/07: The seller said she fought back and was able to continue to sell the Damon bibs, more here: http://www.owenandemma.com/damon1.html
