Google changed the name of its Froogle shopping engine to Google Product Search because, it said, the name was not descriptive of the service it offered users. The company announced the change on its blog on Thursday, where it stated it was taking using the opportunity to "refocus the user experience on providing the most comprehensive, relevant results in a clean, simple, easy-to-use UI" (user interface).
The new interface will also make it easier to buy with Checkout, according to the blog post. Google Product Search allows users to filter results to "Show Google Checkout items only"; the default is "Showing all items."
Yahoo announced a competitive payment offering earlier this week called Yahoo PayPal Checkout that works with eBay's PayPal payment service (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m04/i18/s01). eBay's Shopping.com shopping engine does not appear to give users the ability to filter results to listings that accept PayPal or Yahoo PayPal Checkout.
