Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Reported 6-Hour PayPal Access Issue on Wednesday

Update: A PayPal spokesperson said Thursday the site issues lasted approximately 30 minutes.

eBay warned that users had experienced difficulties with accessing and using their PayPal accounts on Wednesday. A moderator on the eBay discussion boards devoted to PayPal wrote, "We are currently experiencing site issues that are resulting in customers being unable to login. This is a known issue that we are working to resolve. Thank you for your patience regarding this matter." The PayPal access problem was deemed resolved 6 hours after the first post about the problem on the eBay Announcement Board.

PayPal had a recent outage on June 1 that was attributed to database problems (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m06/i01/s04).

During a keynote address at eBay Live, PayPal President Rajiv Dutta said the company was making a major investment in servers to achieve greater than fourfold redundancies. There was a 2-hour planned outage on PayPal late on Monday.
