eBay Australia Implementing Category Rollup in CD Category
By Ina Steiner

eBay Australia told users that beginning from mid-July, regardless of what subcategory a CD belongs to, all CDs listed on eBay.com.au will be classified under category Music > CDs with the category number 307.

The process is called "category rollup" and is part of eBay's move toward using Product Finder, which uses product attributes to narrow searches, in place of browseable sub-categories. Read this AuctionBytes article from 2004 for a look back at eBay's initial attempts to roll up categories: http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abu/y204/m03/abu0115/s03.
