eBay will change the way it serves up its home page to visitors, it told users in a blog entry entitled, "A People-centric Home Page is On The Way." In a few weeks, eBay will begin customizing the home page visitors see based on their past activity. eBay has been testing the new home page, which, in addition to having a new look, will make accessing My eBay pages and favorite searches easier, and will make it "easier than ever to connect with people who love what you love."
Multichannel Merchant reported on a presentation delivered by eBay's Vice President of Buying Experience Jamie Iannone about the personalized home pages. Speaking at the eTail conference on August 8, Iannone said eBay will segment customers according to activity levels, intent, needs and success rates. eBay's "customer personas" include shopping-driven passionates, convenience-driven enthusiasts, and price-driven shoppers seeking values and bargains, according to the Multichannel Merchant article (http://multichannelmerchant.com/news/etail-ebay-08092007).
eBay is making many changes to its site in an effort to improve the buying experience, and it set up a page on its site to preview some of the changes (http://sneakpeek.ebay.com).
According to the eBay blog post, "The new home page will be driven by your individual activity, so each eBay home page will be as unique as each eBay member. Watch for the new eBay home page coming in the next couple of weeks!"
