An Internet retail business that got its start on eBay is #167 on Inc's August 23rd Top 500 list for retailers for the 500 fastest growing private companies in the country. Jennifer Canty, CEO of Dyscern, started the company about five years ago in the basement of her Washington DC home. She sold items on eBay because she didn't want to return to work. She decided to auction refurbished consumer electronics, even repairing iPods herself while her son napped. Her business took off and Dyscern moved to a warehouse about four years ago. Now, Dyscern has a staff of 20 people.
Dyscern grossed $6 million in 2006 and is on track to gross $12 million in 2007. Canty is pregnant with her third child.
