eBay is hoping a new month-long promotion will encourage sellers to use its optional Gallery feature when listing items. The promotion gives sellers who purchase the Gallery upgrade for 35 cents a discount on listing fees: free insertion fees for Auction-style or Fixed Price listings at $9.99 or less, and 25 percent off insertion fees for items with a starting price of $10 or more.
Gallery is an optional upgrade that displays a thumbnail photo next to listings in search results. eBay charges sellers 35 cents if they choose to use the feature.
According to eBay's announcement, eBay hopes the promotion will "continue to improve the buyer experience by encouraging sellers to use Gallery, which helps buyers shop in a more visually appealing way."
eBay ran a somewhat similar promotion on August 15, but some sellers were confused, misreading it as a "free listing day" for items listed with a starting price of $9.99 or less (http://tinyurl.com/25lj3s). As with that promotion, the current promotion requires sellers pay the 35-cent fee for using Gallery to qualify.
The promotion runs from August 29 to September 30 and applies to core listings on eBay.com and on eBay Canada (http://www2.ebay.com/aw/ca/200708281841552.html). The amount eBay sellers may save varies depending on the starting price of the item they are listing and whether they generally use the Gallery feature or not. All other fees apply, see website for details and restrictions.
