An eBay glitch that had sellers concerned about their accounts on Wednesday was not related to last week's glitch at PayPal, nor was it related to a security issue at eBay, as some users have speculated.
What had sellers so concerned were emails from eBay stating that their automatic payment method had been declined. The letter asked them to make a one-time payment via PayPal, credit card or check and to update their automatic payment method.
eBay spokesperson Catherine England said, "To be clear, this was not a security or billing issue of any kind. It was simply an instance of an email erroneously being distributed to the wrong group of folks in eBay's My Messages."
eBay advised sellers through a post on the announcement board not to submit a one-time payment, and asked sellers who had submitted payment to contact the company (http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200709051124401.html).
