eBay's PayPal Promises Fix to Shipping Glitch

PayPal said it will soon have a fix to a problem first noted in the AuctionBytes blog on September 8. The PayPal database glitch, according to the company, is limited to a very small number of eBay purchases and is presenting eBay sellers with the wrong shipping information.

eBay and PayPal have chosen to use their blogs to report the problem to users rather than the traditional method of posting on eBay's Systems Announcement Board. The PayPal blog updated its September 12th posting to report that the PayPal technology team is still diligently working to resolve the issue and it anticipates having a resolution very soon. It told users impacted by the glitch to contact the PayPal customer service center (http://www.thepaypalblog.com/weblog/2007/09/problems-with-e.html).

We had reported on September 11 that eBay PowerSeller Evan Prytherch was affected by the glitch. The toner cartridge he had purchased on eBay using PayPal was delivered to the wrong person, who contacted Prytherch and forwarded on the package to him (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m09/i11/s02). Prytherch told AuctionBytes on Thursday that he asked PayPal to compensate him for the cost of the UPS shipping to get his package forwarded, and the money was in his account within 30 minutes of making the request.

PayPal was scheduled to perform live site maintenance to its website beginning September 13 at 11:00 pm PT (http://www.paypaldeveloper.com/pdn/blog/article?blog.id=mts_updates&message.id=133).
