PayPal announced the winners of its Developer Challenge held in August. The contest invited members of the PayPal developer community to develop a Facebook application that used PayPal in some way. ChipIn and CashFly won $10,000 each, and two winners won $5,000 each: Smarter Than My Friends and iVogoESsayTrade.
The original contest announcement stated another four winners would receive $2,500. According to the PayPal blog announcement, it changed the award structure because it "ended up with a tie for first place, so we granted two winners the $10k award, and we granted two second place prizes of $5k."
ChipIn says it is "the free, quick, and easy way to collect money via PayPal for parties, trips, events, causes, and more. Import your existing Facebook event or create a new ChipIn and we'll help you spread the word and collect funds."
CashFly says it "allows its users to receive funds from others using PayPal. It supports personal accounts, fundraisers, donation boxes, and item/ticket sales, and many payments can be sent anonymously. Also, see who has sent you payments from the home page."
Here's what PayPal's own Facebook app says: "Looking for an easier way to get your friends to pay you back? PayPal for Facebook lets you request money from your friends with just a few clicks. PayPal is busy developing more features. Download this application, and enjoy new features as soon as they're launched."
