Just in time for holiday shopping, eBay is making changes to the way shipping costs are displayed. eBay said it is replacing its existing "Price" sort option in search results with a "Price + Shipping" sort in most categories. The new "Price + Shipping" option organizes search results by the item's price plus the cost of the shipping & handling. The sort can be ordered highest to lowest or lowest to highest. The change is rolling out on the US site this week.
eBay said some buyers have become frustrated shopping when they find deceptively low-priced items that have high shipping costs. "Price + Shipping" sort allows buyers to see a better representation of the total cost of the item they are considering bidding on or purchasing. eBay has not made the new sort option available in its new Finding search technology found on the Playground, nor on the testing on the main site.
eBay is also pushing shoppers to certain items, such as iPods and handbags, that offer free or low-cost shipping or expedited shipping. It created a page (http://pages.ebay.com/shippingdeals) where shoppers can search exclusively for items that offer one of three options: free, thrifty, or expedited shipping. The page tells shoppers, "We've combed eBay to find the best shipping deals so you can focus on shopping not shipping."
