Senior Vice President of Trust & Safety for eBay Rob Chesnut has stepped down and is succeeded by Matt Halprin, Vice President of Trust & Safety. eBay spokesperson Nichola Sharpe said Halprin has been running the global Trust and Safety organization since Chesnut went on sabbatical and said, Halprin "has been playing a proactive and influential role in the department for many years now."
Matt Halprin joined eBay in 2002 from 15 years at the Boston Consulting Group. AuctionBytes interviewed Halprin on August 18, 2007, in a podcast about eBay's new Seller Non Performance enforcement initiative (http://podcast.auctionbytes.com). eBay has introduced a number of new initiatives in the past 12 months to try and combat counterfeiting and fraud on the site, and the Seller Non Performance initiative was particularly controversial.
Rob Chesnut went on sabbatical in June but never returned, leading to much speculation about whether he had left the company. When AuctionBytes inquired in August, an eBay spokesperson said he was due to return in the fall. According to a post on eBay's Chatter blog on Friday, Chesnut will be helping eBay's legal team on some special projects and has no long-term plans. He initially joined eBay as Associate General Counsel and is a former federal prosecutor.
