eBay is rolling out a new portal that lets shoppers search for items located near them. Currently users can search for items within a specific distance of their ZIP Code by using the Location filter found under Search Options on the left-hand side of search results, or through Advanced Search. The new portal, due out in the next week or so, gives users the ability to quickly search and browse for local items.
Shoppers can plug their ZIP Code into the following URL: http://local.shop.ebay.com/ZIP. For example, to search for items near in Beverly Hills, a shopper would go to http://local.shop.ebay.com/90210. (The feature is not yet functional as of this writing.)
In addition, a new recommendation feature will tell shoppers how many items in their search results are located near them. They can then click the link if they want to narrow their search results to just those items.
Sellers must list with their ZIP or postal code in the Item Location field in order to have their listings appear in local searches. Sellers can opt-out by changing their Selling Preferences in My eBay (via My eBay > My Account > Preferences > Selling Preferences).
