Overstock Auctions is holding a sale on listing fees the week of February 18th to coincide with the boycott of eBay. Sellers who list items on the Overstock Auctions platform from February 18 - 25, 2008 will be eligible for a 50% discount on listing fees.
In its early days, Overstock.com also capitalized on seller unrest to attract eBay sellers, but challenges at the corporate level led Overstock to scale back on its investment in its auction platform. However, last year, Overstock entered into an strategic alliance with ecommerce-management firm ChannelAdvisor to allow its large merchants to list their inventory on Overstock.com Shopping (http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/abn/y07/m03/i21/s02).
Overstock.com Chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne stated in a press release, "Our promotion happens to fall during the same week that an eBay boycott was planned. While we didn't arrange our promotion in response to that particular boycott, we did notice that there are often strike plans. Auction customers are trying to tell eBay something. We overheard and we are responding to their persistent requests for low selling fees."
See Overstock Auctions website for promotion details.
