eBay Glitch Causes Consternation among Sellers

On Friday evening, eBay users began noticing listings on eBay.com that were missing bid/buy buttons. eBay posted on its Systems Announcement Board Sunday afternoon, "Some Shopping.com listings appeared accidentally on eBay.com over the past two days. This system issue has been resolved." But in the meantime, sellers questioned why hundreds of thousands of listings that seemed to originate from Shopping.com had appeared on eBay. Some questioned whether it was done to boost listing numbers during the seller boycott, while other sellers were skeptical that this was manipulation of any kind and believed it was a test or a glitch.
eBay spokesperson Usher Lieberman told AuctionBytes on Saturday that the listings were part of a limited test that had run its course. Some users continued to question eBay's motivations on eBay forums. By Sunday evening, eBay had removed those threads from its discussion boards.
The AuctionBytes Blog wrote about the faulty listings on Saturday morning and has continued to update the story.
