eBay Adds Fee-Based Option for Increased International Exposure

eBay is introducing a paid option for US and Canadian sellers to gain exposure on eBay.co.uk default search results. eBay UK and eBay Ireland sellers will also have an upgrade option to list on the North American sites.

Currently sellers have the option of choosing World Wide Shipping when listing on eBay.com for no extra fees, but their items only show up on another international site when buyers specifically look for international items using Advanced Search features. Otherwise sellers have to create a separate listing on other international eBay sites and pay full listing fees for those sites. eBay spokesperson Usher Lieberman said sellers still have those options, but said "Paying the fee gains sellers much more exposure through default search results."

The fees for US and Canadian sellers using the International Site Visibility Listing upgrade range from 10 cents for an item with a starting price of under $10, to 40 cents for an item with a starting price of $50 and above.

The fees for UK sellers using the new upgrade range from 5 pence for items under 5 pounds to 15 pence for items 30 pounds and above.

eBay said it would add support for additional international markets in the near future.

Discovered by sellers in the announcement is news that international sales do not count toward Final Value Fee discounts (http://forums.ebay.com/db2/thread.jspa?threadID=2000544161&tstart=0&mod=1207009916487). It's implied in the US announcement, but clearly stated on the UK board post: Please note that for sellers who choose to list on different eBay sites, those sales will not count towards UK Final Value Fee Discounts. International sales made using the upgrade will count toward the discount.
