Online bookselling site Abebooks.com has acquired Chrislands, a business that builds, hosts and maintains online bookstores, the fourth acquisition in four years. Based in Burke, Virginia, Chrislands currently hosts over 1,000 online bookstores.
Chrislands will continue to operate as an independent business but will receive access to AbeBooks’ expertise and resources. For example, stores hosted by Chrislands will soon have the capability of including their inventory in BookFinder.com search results. BookFinder.com, owned by AbeBooks, is a book price-comparison search engine.
The majority of Chrislands’ customers are used booksellers in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia but the company also serves booksellers in other countries. Chrislands charges a set-up fee of (USD) $199 and then a monthly fee starting at $19.99 per month.
AbeBooks.com spokesperson Richard Davies said there were no plans to change the pricing on Chrislands. "We intend to help Chrislands find more customers - it's easy for AbeBooks to reach out to booksellers and inform them about what Chrislands can offer."
The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. AbeBooks.com - located in Victoria, BC - is an online marketplace for new, used, rare and out-of-print books with more than 110 million books for sale from 13,500 booksellers.
