Amazon.com Lets Developers Create Their Own Payment Service

Amazon.com is giving developers the ability to create what is, in effect, their own online-payment service using its Amazon FPS (Flexible Payments Service). The Marketplace Widget extends the capability of Amazon FPS "Pay Now" widgets from simply accepting payments to facilitating payments for others. Ecommerce solution providers, shopping cart providers or marketplace application developers can use the Marketplace Widget to facilitate payments between buyers and sellers. The seller pays a fee to the developer (the marketplace, for example) that can be a fixed amount and/or a percentage of the transaction.

Amazon.com also added some new features to FPS itself and to the existing Pay Now Widget. Both widgets now support an Instant Payment Notification (IPN) feature; a new Refund API call automates the process of generating refunds; and additional transaction details, including the buyer's email address, are now available to sellers
