Alibris, a marketplace for third-party media sellers, told booksellers this week it would cap commission fees on high-value books. All sellers currently pay Alibris a minimum sales commission of 15% of their list price when a sale is made through Alibris' retail sales channels. For items priced over $400, sellers will soon pay a flat sales commission of $60.
Alibris also announced last week that it had created Borders Marketplace, a special section of the newly launched Borders.com site that gives customers access to more than 75 million used and out-of-print titles. Borders Marketplace is accessible on Borders.com under the Used Books tab. Borders Marketplace will also be accessible via computer kiosks in Borders superstores after the nationwide in-store rollout of Borders.com is completed in the coming weeks.
Other Alibris partner sites include Barnes & Noble.com, Blackwell UK, Chapters/Indigo and Half.com.
