Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Bid for Media Auctions Unsuccessful

eBay tried launching an auction site that brought radio and TV media and advertisers together, but a message on the website now informs visitors that eBay has ended the pilot program. Critics of the system had argued that the service commoditized buying and selling and moved away from the traditional face-to-face, deal-making process, according to a March article in Media Post (http://publications.mediapost.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Articles.showArticle&art_aid=57415).

According to MediaBuyerPlanner.com, eBay officials had issued a statement last October stating, "We've been disappointed by the lack of broad engagement by cable networks. This has caused the initial testing to be slower than expected (http://www.mediabuyerplanner.com/2008/06/11/ebay-ends-experimental-online-media-marketplace)

The Oxygen network appeared to be one of the few cable networks supporting the venture.
