Amazon S3 Outage Impacts eBay Listings

Photo-hosting services that use Amazon's S3 service were affected by an outage on Sunday. SmugMug and Auctiva posted alerts to users informing them of the problem. The websites were accessible, but photos stored on Amazon's S3 servers were not.

Online sellers who use the photo-hosting services complained that it affected sales. "Having no images most of Sunday has to hurt Sunday evening ending auctions," said one eBay seller. "I also wasn't able to load up new auctions for Sunday night either."

Amazon posted updates throughout the outage and is giving developers credit for the outage.
