Reading AuctionBytes: eBay Australia Apologizes for Ads, Trial to Continue
|
eBay Australia apologized to sellers for not informing them of new ad placements on their Item description pages, an area formerly off-limits to outside advertising.
But, according to the announcement, the ads will continue, but will appear lower on the page. Sellers had been angry when ads for the FoxTel digital television subscription service began appearing on their View Item pages directly below the "Place Bid" button. eBay said it would lower the placement of the ads and clearly mark them as sponsored links. Similar advertisements are already running in a number of markets, including Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, and the UK, eBay said.
In addition to those ads, which will continue on a trial basis in the sport, movies and electronics categories, eBay Australia is intermittently running small animated banner ads at the very top of the View Item pages linking to http://www.lotsofhotels.com.au/promo, a site operated by Webjet Marketing Pty.
Those ads were not mentioned in the Announcement Board post.
