The President of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) Randy Wells wrote a letter to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson in which he offered the NAA's services to the country during the current financial crisis. Wells reminded Paulson of the role auctioneers played during the Savings & Loan crisis of the 1980s when "professional auctioneers across the nation were contracted by the RTC [Resolution Trust Corporation] to utilize their professional expertise to quickly and effectively dispose of the government's troubled assets."
The September 19th letter from the NAA comes just weeks after the association held an "Auction Action on Capitol Hill Day" lobbying event in which auctioneers from 17 states convened in Washington, DC for a day of training followed by a day of meetings with elected officials. This year participants educated members of Congress about the current foreclosure crisis and the current system for disposing of foreclosed homes.
