Reading AuctionBytes: Auction Site eBid Runs Promo, Ad Campaign in US

International online-auction site eBid is giving the first 20,000 new subscribers a special rate of $50 for a lifetime subscription, which entitles them to zero listing fees and zero final value fees on their auctions for life. The promotion is part of the company's celebration of its U.S. launch and double digit growth. To support its growth plans, eBid is currently embarking on an online and offline radio and billboard advertising campaign in the U.S.

eBid co-founder and partner, Mark Wilkinson said, "This offer is our way of thanking our U.S. customers who are joining us in record numbers. By slashing our one-off lifetime subscription fee we will help sellers generate extra needed income during this difficult economic downturn and buyers find even better bargains as they continue to tighten their purse strings and look for heavily discounted or second hand necessity items."

The company said it had over 1.5 million listings in September and is experiencing a substantial and consistent stream of new sign ups daily. For the past quarter, revenues have grown 45% month over month, which it attributed to an influx of disgruntled eBay customers.

The company is 10 years old, and Wilkinson said, "While recent economic activity has accelerated the demise of many companies, we have continued our investment into worldwide growth into 18 territories across the US and Canada, UK, Africa, Asia and Australasia."
