eBay's online payment service subsidiary PayPal has launched a new PayPal website for Mexican Internet users to buy and sell online using Mexican Pesos. The service enables Mexican buyers to pay for online purchases using their credit cards or bank accounts. Mexican sellers can receive payments from PayPal's large network of 65 million active members around the globe, as well as withdraw their balances directly to any local bank. The Peso is the first Latin American currency to be added to the PayPal system.
"PayPal's goal is to provide consumers a secure, fast and convenient way to pay and get paid online and to give online shoppers in Mexico more places to shop quickly and securely," said Fernando Moreno, director of PayPal Latin America. "The launch of PayPal Mexico is a significant step towards our next phase of growth."
PayPal also launched fully localized sites in Hong Kong and Singapore, bringing the total number of localized PayPal sites to 18. It also launched nine new languages on its website, including Bahasa Indonesian, Danish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Thai, Traditional Chinese and Turkish.
PayPal is available in 190 countries around the world and enables payments in 19 currencies including the U.S. Dollar, Canadian Dollar, Australian Dollar, Euro, British Pound, Japanese Yen, Chinese Yuan, Czech Koruna, Danish Krone, Hong Kong Dollar, Hungarian Forint, New Zealand Dollar, Norwegian Krone, Polish Zloty, Singaporean Dollar, Swedish Krona, Swiss Franc and Israeli New Shekel.
