PayPal Experiencing a Number of Glitches
By Ina Steiner

PayPal has been experiencing a number of glitches of late. One of the glitches affecting buyers is that some of them are shown a message, "Your payment has been refunded" on items they've won even if payment had not yet been initiated. A PayPal moderator wrote on the boards, "The eBay technical team is aware of this issue."

Another glitch affecting sellers is that the Paypal transaction pages are not displaying SPP eligibility - that is the message that indicates whether sellers are covered for a particular transaction under PayPal's Seller Protection Program.

The Register wrote about a glitch involving an incorrect link included in emails to PayPal users, and the AuctionBytes blog reported on two glitches, one affecting access issues for holders of PayPal's security key.

PCPro reported that PayPal users are being locked out of their accounts after changing their default currency setting, leaving them with no way to access or withdraw their money.

An issue affecting PayPal payments for eBay seller fees has been resolved, eBay reported on Thursday.

Update 11/24/08: PayPal spokesperson Michael Oldenburg said several of these issues have been resolved. The issue in which users were locked out of their accounts due to the security key was resolved on Friday, as was the problem referenced in PCPro. He said the problem involving an incorrect link included in emails to PayPal users was resolved last Tuesday. PayPal is continuing to work on the issue in which buyers receive a notice that their payments have been refunded, and advised buyers to log in and look at their transactions; Oldenburg did not know the scope of this problem. And, he said that while the problem that causes the SPP eligibility to fail to display has not yet been resolved, "customers can rest assured they can still receive SSP for following the guidelines," which are set out in section 11 of the PayPal user agreement.
