Reading AuctionBytes: Amazon.com Completes Acquisition of AbeBooks
Amazon completed its acquisition of AbeBooks, a deal that was announced in August. AbeBooks is an online marketplace for books, with over 110 million primarily used, rare and out-of-print books listed for sale by thousands of independent booksellers from around the world. It also owns complementary book-selling and book-shopping properties.
AbeBooks will continue to function as a stand-alone operation based in Victoria, British Columbia and will maintain all of its websites, which include Abebooks.com, Abebooks.ca, Abebooks.co.uk, Abebooks.de, Abebooks.fr, Abebooks.it and Iberlibro.com.
Amazon told its third-party sellers in an announcement board post , "We expect AbeBooks to help us expand the selection of books we offer to our customers, especially used, rare and out-of-print titles."
AbeBooks sellers who also list on Amazon.com should continue to manage their business just as they do today, according to the announcement. "There are a lot of opportunities as a result of this acquisition, but it is too early to go into specifics."
Meanwhile, Abebooks told its community , "We expect this change to allow AbeBooks and Amazon to expand their offerings and introduce new features and services to enhance the book buying and selling experience."
