Alibaba.com is seeing more SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) turn to the Internet as a cost-effective channel for global trade, and said it is bullish on the future of ecommerce. The international B2B marketplace is investing in new areas to support its growing community of suppliers and buyers, including marketing, branding, product development and enhancement, customer acquisition and training and staff development.

CEO David Wei said, "Our international marketplace attracted a record number of users, increasing 74% year-on-year, suggesting that traders worldwide are increasingly turning to the Internet as a new channel of e-commerce."

Alibaba also released its monthly Trade Trends report, the top 10 most in-demand products by U.S. buyers. Hot products include Wooden baskets; Cell phones; Used laptops; Jewelry; Candy; Shoes; Fleece fabric; Apparel; Sidekick cell phones; and DVDs. Popular categories include Apparel; Laptops; Automobiles & motorcycles; Mobile phones; Computer hardware & software; Consumer electronics; Food & beverages; Agriculture; Motorcycles. Items in rising demand include Wooden boards; Outdoor fountains; Automotive racks; PC case designs; Heater sealing; X-ray tubes; Auto gaskets; Nokia N97 phones; Used cars; and Projection screen fabric.
