European online payment service Moneybookers announced financial results for the year ended December 31, 2008. The total number of account holders was up 55 percent to 6.2m and transaction volume was up over 300 percent to 3 billion Euros.
The number of online merchants offering the Moneybookers payment system rose to over 30,000, and during the year, Moneybookers expanded its worldwide reach to offer over 60 local payment options in more than 200 countries, up from 35 in 2007. Over six million people now hold a Moneybookers eWallet account, up from the four million reported at the end of 2007.
Meanwhile, Netgiro Systems, a leading global payment service provider and business unit of Digital River Inc. announced it has expanded its payment offering into Latin America. The company is now supporting the online processing of domestic credit cards in Mexico and Brazil, which it says is the preferred payment method for the vast majority of online shoppers in the region.
Netgiro delivers its technology and services, which are designed to help expand international reach and simplify payment administration, as a stand-alone payment solution as well as an integrated part of Digital River’s global e-commerce offering.
