eBay will integrate the Moneybookers online payment service onto its U.S. website this month. Moneybookers is one of three outside services that eBay will integrate on its site in addition to its own PayPal service. ProPay has already launched on eBay, and sellers will soon be allowed to accept the PayMate service.
Unlike ProPay, Moneybookers will not limit its use to PowerSellers only. A Moneybookers representative also said the service offers a no charge-back policy.
Moneybookers will charge eBay sellers when shoppers select Moneybookers as a payment method. Seller fees are 2.9% plus 29 cents per transaction for monthly sales of up to $3,000; 2.4% plus 29 cents per transaction for monthly sales of between $3,000.01 and $10,000; 2.1% plus 29 cents per transaction for monthly sales of between $10,000.01 and $100,000; and 1.9% plus 29 cents per transaction for monthly sales over $100,000.
eBay is requiring sellers to accept only electronic forms of payment and disallowing the overt use of checks and money orders on its site. Sellers will be allowed to advertise only PayPal, ProPay, and direct credit or debit card payment via a merchant credit card account in their listings - and soon, Moneybookers and PayMate. (Some categories are excluded from the policy, such as Mature Audiences and Real Estate, and "Payment on pick-up" is also an option but does not cover sellers under the eBay's Seller Protection Plan.)
Moneybookers' representative said the company is looking into the possibility of expanding the service into other eBay country sites once the eBay.com integration is fully established.
In a press release, Markus Kroeger, Managing Director, Moneybookers USA Inc., said: "We are delighted that our platform has been chosen by eBay as an approved and directly integrated accepted payment provider. Moneybookers will offer all eBay sellers and buyers more choice, higher security and a high performance checkout process. Our system keeps data safe and makes sure that sellers receive their money in the quickest and most convenient way. This is a significant step in the continued success of Moneybookers. eBay is the biggest and most successful online marketplace in the world. Our new partnership with them positions us for sustained rapid growth, following on from a highly successful 2008."
