Online marketplace Etsy reported an 8.1 percent increase in page views in January 2009 compared to the previous month, and said 138,000 new members joined the Etsy community. The number of new items listed was up 9.2 percent from December, but the number and value of goods sold were down compared to December 2008. The company said it expects listings to increase each January "as folks re-stock their shops after the holiday season," and said January numbers exceeded its expectations "in these difficult economic times."
A total of 683,369 items sold in January worth $9.9 million. Page views were 443,468,017 for the month.
Meanwhile, online marketplace Bonanzle, which launched last year, said traffic was up significantly in January, with 55% more unique visitors than December. Bonanzle had reported the following traffic statistics for the month of December: 469,465 visits, 280,419 unique visitors, and 4,844,018 page views. Bonanzle said sales also increased in January by more than 30% over what they had been in December. (It does not reveal sales numbers for competitive reasons.)
