eBay UK is giving private sellers (non-business sellers) free listings on auction-format items listed for under a pound, however, the site has raised commission fees for those sellers to 10 percent across the board no matter what the starting price. Fees for business-registered sellers will be unchanged.
By law, UK sellers must register as an eBay business if they sell items that they have bought to resell; make items themselves and sell them with the intention of making a profit; are Trading Assistants; or if they buy items for their business.
The new fees for individuals go into effect on March 12, 2009. (Link to announcement.)
eBay UK also announced it was retiring the old version of My eBay on March 9 and would retire the old search system (meaning users may no longer opt-out of the new search system). (Link to announcement.)
