Online postage provider Endicia, which offers customers insurance through third-party vendor U-PIC, has changed its policy regarding the plan. Endicia said that instead of offering a "master" policy with U-PIC, the policy is now offered on an individual basis with each Endicia customer. U-PIC offers discounted package insurance for packages shipped via major carriers including UPS, USPS and FedEx.
Endicia has negotiated policy rates with U-PIC on behalf of customers in order to get them favorable rates. According to Endicia Marketing Brand Manager Vivian Li, the policy is the same in terms of what is covered, but since they are individual policies that are being issued, the company is asking each customer to review it, including the exclusions, and accept the terms on an individual basis.
Li said, "I think many customers were unaware what the exclusions were which is part of the reason we are switching over to the new way of agreeing to the terms. We want to be sure that all of our customers insuring through Endicia's parcel insurance are aware of the terms of the policy."
She went on to say that if a seller is shipping items that are not covered under the standard policy (the biggest ones to note are cell phones, laptops, currency and fine art), they should contact U-PIC directly and inquire about establishing a customized policy that fits their shipping needs. "U-PIC can better rate these higher risk items and charge an appropriate insurance rate," Li said.
U-PIC offers a toll free number is 800-955-4623 for their sales department where users can inquire about creating a customized insurance policy.
