Jim and Kathy Kamnikar have stepped down from GoAntiques after more than a dozen years at the helm of the antiques and collectibles marketplace. The move comes after WorthPoint acquired GoAntiques in October. At the time, Jim Kamnikar was named WorthPoint President.
Jim said that as an entrepreneur, he found himself no longer in control and was unable to drive the direction of the company. "It was time for Kathy and me to move on," and said they were excited about the opportunities ahead. They remain Worthpoint shareholders.
WorthPoint founder and CEO Will Seippel said the decision was mutual. He said he understood the decision because he had also sold a business to another company and found it impossible to stay. "Becoming part of somebody else's strategy is difficult."
Seippel, who lives in Atlanta, said a letter would be going out to dealers on Friday, and explained he would be managing the part of the GoAntiques/Worthpoint team based in Ohio. The GoAntiques marketplace will keep its name, while the auction part of the business will be renamed WorthPoint Preferred Auctions.
