Vendio told eBay sellers they would begin charging renewal fees for existing "GTC" (Good Til Cancelled) items starting in mid-April. The company's policy states, "eBay Stores listings will be charged the non-refundable Listing Fee at the beginning of each 30 day period during which the listing exists in your eBay Store," but apparently the company had not enforced the policy for several years. According to a moderator in the Vendio discussion board, "Given the expected increased adoption of GTC for the new 30 Day Fixed Price format on the live site, we need to begin enforcing this long-standing element of our fees policy."
Vendio Senior Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Michael Levit told AuctionBytes, "eBay store renewals have traditionally been a smaller part of the market and as a result Vendio did not implement the renewals charges even though it was clearly stated in Vendio's fee policies. Now that eBay Stores are on the rise, at the expense of core listings, Vendio is beginning to charge for renewals. This is not a change in our fees policy and is not intended to be a fees increase."
He went on to say, "Vendio simply needs to maintain revenue from customers who list Store items once and sell those items multiple times while continuing to use our solutions such as order management, checkout re-direct, and inventory management. Vendio continues to honor past pricing plans for customers including listing fee based plans although the company is now focusing its business on success fees, having recognized these types of plans will pose challenges as eBay continues to makes changes to their pricing. Vendio has reached out to our customers we feel most likely to be affected by the change and expect little user disruption as a result."
