Etsy CEO Maria Thomas said ideas on breaking out vintage and supplies into separate marketplaces "still hold great appeal for us," but said it's been a question of priorities up to this point. "I think it's critically important to keep shoppers loyal to the site, to focus on those things such as checkout and search and registration, and things that can help improve the conversion in the entire marketplace."
Speaking during a podcast conducted earlier this month by Etsy's senior management, she went on to say, "So it's not a question of not wanting to look at the potential for individual marketplaces, it's really been a question of priorities up to this point." (Link to segment transcript.)
In another segment of the podcast, Etsy's VP of Product Development Sara Hicks talked about the demand for seller tools, and said that "things like book listings, listing scheduler, lists similar and other listing tools are super important to conducting business on Etsy. While they're not currently on our road map, I do want to convey that we are committed to addressing these features."
Hicks said one of the most requested seller features is currently in beta testing - the ability for sellers to rearrange items in their shop, and mentioned other features for sellers that have launched, such as seller stats provided via Google Analytics and the launch of seller fees via PayPal. She said she remains focused on things like search, check-out, improving the category pages including the category taxonomy and other merchandising efforts. (Link to segment transcript.)
