eBay Buyers and Sellers Aid Haiti Earthquake Relief Efforts

eBay buyers and sellers are helping to raise money for the Haiti earthquake relief efforts. Visitors can buy, sell or make cash donations through a dedicated landing page on eBay, with proceeds going to Save the Children, The American Red Cross, and other nonprofits involved in the Haiti earthquake relief effort.

  • When buyers purchase an item on eBay.com in the U.S. and the U.K., they can donate during checkout through the Give@Checkout feature to one of five organizations doing relief and recovery work in Haiti. As of January 16th, the eBay community raised over $373,000 through the Give@Checkout and Donate Now features on eBay.com.

  • Through eBay's Giving Works program, sellers can commit to donating a percentage of their listing's final sale price to the nonprofit of their choice. As of January 16th, over 3,200 sellers had listed over 17,000 listings supporting 43 nonprofits that are assisting with the relief effort.

  • As of January 15th, eBay is waiving all donation processing-fees for Give@Checkout and Donate Now for a period of 30 days. PayPal is waiving the payment processing fees for donations to nonprofits involved in the relief and recovery effort for the next 30 days and has implemented onsite placements, including on the PayPal homepage, where people can click to donate to Save The Children.

Through all its charity and giving efforts, including selling through eBay Giving Works and donating via Give@Checkout, the eBay Community raised $50 million in 2009, showcasing the power of everyday donors to drive large-scale impact.
