eBay celebrated the 10th anniversary of the launch of eBay.ca in April. The company said ten years ago, 2.5 million Canadians visited eBay monthly; in March 2010, the number was over 8 million. eBay Canada marked the milestone with the induction of ten Canadians into the eBay Canada Hall of Fame, the launch of a charity auction to benefit Free The Children (link), and awarding prizes worth $5,000 to contest winners.
Since 2000, 114 million items have been sold by Canadians on eBay, and Canadians have bought more than $7 billion on eBay. In the last year, the average Canadian eBay user bought almost $400 worth of goods. More than 5.7-million Canadians have bought an item on eBay and approximately 850,000 Canadians have sold an item on eBay.
Meanwhile, PayPal marked its fifth anniversary in Australia on Friday. The company said it has 3 million active users and over 30,000 Australian businesses, and has seen 32 percent growth in in cross border payments year over year.
