Google plans to focus more attention on ecommerce and will be upgrading the end-user experience, according to a research note published Wednesday from Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital Markets.
Stephanie Tilenius, former head of eBay's Marketplaces business and now Google Vice President of Ecommerce, spoke at the ChannelAdvisor Catalyst conference on Monday and said the company has adopted a "Mobile First" strategy, emphasizing the growth of Android, and Google's presence in the app market. Other priorities for growth include Social, Personalization and Local.
According to Google, one-half of new Internet connections are on mobile devices, while one of out six minutes spent on the web is social interactions.
Small business is clearly a big part of Google's ecommerce strategy. On Wednesday, it announced a partnership with the United States Small Business Association to help small businesses harness technology to grow their businesses (see today's other AuctionBytes news story).
