eBay Australia will integrate online payment service Paymate into its platform in July. The marketplace announced on Thursday it would expand its Accepted Payments policy so sellers would no longer be required to offer PayPal as a payment method. As part of the policy change, it will allow Paymate to integrate with the site, giving it greater visibility to buyers and sellers.
Paymate Vice President of Sales and Marketing Greg Quinn said the integration would make it the only electronic payment option to PayPal, eBay's own payment service.
"Overall, integration provides access by both buyers and sellers to a more streamlined and seamless buying and selling experience using Paymate on eBay in the Australian market," he said.
In the U.S., eBay has allowed several payment services to integrate with its marketplace in addition to PayPal - Paymate, ProPay and Moneybookers.
eBay Australia had tried to move to a PayPal-only marketplace in 2008, but was pressured from doing so by the Australian government regulatory agency ACCC.
