Overstock.com launched a new section on its website called Main Street Store featuring over 2,500 products from small and minority-owned businesses across the U.S. The company said it's a new way for consumers to "shop local." The Main Street Store is listed as a "See More" option on Overstock's main navigation header, and categories include furniture, jewelry, apparel, gourmet food, pet supplies and home decor.
Overstock announced the Main Street initiative in April as a way small businesses to reduce supply chain costs while opening their products to a mass audience. Sellers interested in listing on Overstock's Main Street Store can email their request to mainstreet@overstock.com.
In announcing the new feature, Overstock.com Chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne said, "The Main Street Store creates a national marketing and distribution channel for small businesses by providing them a way to sell their products easily and inexpensively. It is also a place where consumers can contribute to the national recovery by buying products made by entrepreneurs throughout the U.S. It's the new way to shop local."
